Wash before asking — the question is a guest, and it must be received cleanly.
Do not ask in haste. The heavens answer the quiet, not the hurried.
Ask one true question, not many. A single honest wish weighs more than a hundred.
The hour of birth is the hour of the question’s truth — be certain of it.
Whatever the answer, the stone is a messenger. Treat it with the courtesy due a messenger.
A reading is a lantern, not a path. Carry it, and walk.

四仪之礼 · 玉以答之
On a day of your choosing, the piece is held to the morning light and named aloud once. From that hour it is yours, and it knows it.
Under a new moon or before a journey: rinse in clear water, dry on the palm, rest a night apart. A clean stone is a listening stone.
A jade is never handed over — it is placed, palm to palm, with the story of who wore it first. The giver’s warmth must cross with the stone.
When a kept jade changes hands, it is not sold but given — with the name of the first keeper, so the stone remembers all of them.
